Porsche Day at Larz Anderson 2015
Driving early morning from Westminster, I witnessed the fog settling comfortably across the wetlands flanking the road. Along the way, I made a pit stop for a hot chocolate, opting for a small in a medium cup with the rest filled with milk – a perfect start to the much-anticipated Porsche event at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, MA. Typically, the museum hosts car events every weekend, ranging from Antique Car Day on Saturdays to Micro Car Day on Sundays of the same weekend.
Arriving early, I noticed the lawn was already half full, with enthusiasts eager to secure prime spots to display their Porsches against the backdrop of the castle-like museum. Walking through the entrance, I spotted Joe Moccia and his orange Porsche 914. Joe's attention to detail was evident in the tweed floor mats of his cars; the orange and black ones in this Porsche 914 were a perfect match, reminiscent of a classic option from the car's era.
While walking around, I noticed someone sitting in front of a Porsche 356 Spyder, diligently drawing the car. Intrigued, I watched him work for a while and was impressed by his skill. Later in the day, as the event wound down, I saw him walking down the hill and approached to see if he had finished the drawing. The talented artist turned out to be Mike Paige from Mike Page Studios. Among the vendors, my favorite was Diyver, showcasing custom-made chairs crafted from seats of various Porsche models. These chairs were a welcome respite for my tired feet, offering both comfort and style.
The event had a notable absence this year that caught me off guard: my good friend Jacques Baudin, the owner of a black GT3, was not in attendance. He had relocated overseas with his family, breaking the tradition of their yearly visit to this show. Jacques was a familiar face at many events at the museum, and we often discussed the cars on display and shared stories about family. KMC made a strong showing with an impressive array of Porsches, showcasing their specialization in modifying vehicles for race specifications.
