Capturing the Heart of the Dream Ride Experience: My Journey as a Volunteer Photographer

As a photographer, I’ve always believed in the power of a single image to tell a story, capture a moment, or inspire change. So when I was given the incredible opportunity to volunteer my time and skills for the Dream Ride Experience in Farmington, CT, the past few years, I knew it would be more than just another assignment—it would be a chance to contribute to something truly extraordinary.

The Dream Ride Experience is renowned for its blend of automotive passion, community spirit, and charitable giving. This year, the event achieved a remarkable milestone by raising an astounding $7 million for the Hometown Foundation, a testament to the dedication of everyone involved and the generosity of the community. When I was invited to donate my time and photography services to this cause through Mesh New England Magazine, I felt honored and excited to be a part of such a meaningful event.

From the moment I arrived at the Farmington Polo Club, I was struck by the scale and vibrancy of the Dream Ride Experience. The venue was abuzz with activity, and the atmosphere was electric with anticipation. My role as a volunteer photographer was to capture the essence of this spectacular event—everything from the gleaming cars in the Dream Show to the joy on faces during the Dream Cruise.

One of the highlights was photographing the Dream Cruise, a parade featuring classic cars, hypercars, and motorcycles winding through the scenic streets of Farmington. The event attracted enthusiastic crowds and created an electric atmosphere. To keep the group of over 500 vehicles together, police managed traffic by blocking all intersections. I aimed to capture not only the stunning cars but also the vibrant energy and excitement of the spectators. Some of my favorite shots include the cars shining in the sunlight and families cheering from the sidelines, perfectly embodying the event's spirit. It was also fantastic to see Michael Bozzuto, the event host, interacting with the dream riders and drivers, enjoying friendly conversations as they waited.

The Dream Show was a paradise for photographers. With over 500 vehicles on display, the variety and craftsmanship were truly awe-inspiring. From sleek sports cars to meticulously restored classics, each vehicle had its own unique story. Hearing from car owners, who were thrilled to see their cherished vehicles captured in photos, was incredibly gratifying.

Beyond the automotive allure, the Dream Ride Experience is a celebration of community. Capturing the family-friendly activities, live performances, and the interactions between attendees was equally important. I focused on the heartfelt moments of connection between people from all walks of life. These images were crucial in showcasing the event’s impact and the genuine joy it brings to everyone involved.

Kristy Sevag is celebrating her sixth Dream Ride event, a milestone that underscores her dedication to helping dogs in need as well as the other four pillars of The Hometown Foundation. Over the years, Kristy has played a crucial role in assisting hundreds of dogs find their forever homes through her work with Big Ranch Dog Rescue. Her commitment to animal welfare extends beyond the events, as she has also opened her heart and home to a rescue dog of her own. Kristy's involvement in the Dream Ride events reflects her passion for making a positive impact on the lives of these wonderful animals. Kristy Sevag's soul truly comes alive when she pairs Dream Riders with their dream supercars! She also has a deep passion for organizing the annual Dream Ride Polo Party. This year, over 800 attendees gathered to support The Farmington Polo Club teams, with the event proudly sponsored by Penfolds Wine and Lamborghini Greenwich.

Knowing that my photos would be used to support the Hometown Foundation’s initiatives made every click of the camera even more meaningful. The Dream Ride Experience is not just about showcasing beautiful cars and having a great time; it’s about raising significant funds for individuals with intellectual and developmental challenges. Seeing the final total of $7 million raised was both inspiring and humbling. It’s a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared purpose.

Volunteering as a photographer for the Dream Ride Experience was an experience I will cherish forever. It allowed me to blend my passion for photography with my desire to make a positive impact. The event’s success is a reminder of the incredible things that can happen when people unite for a common cause.

If you ever have the chance to be a part of such an event, whether as a volunteer, participant, or supporter, I highly encourage you to seize it. The Dream Ride Experience not only raised a great deal of donations for a worthy cause but also created lasting memories and connections. For me, it was a privilege to capture and contribute to a weekend that celebrated the best of humanity.

Thank you to everyone involved for making this such a memorable and impactful event. Here’s to more moments captured, more lives touched, and more dreams realized in the years to come.
